i heart faces : beach fun

August 24, 2010

I was so excited to see this week’s theme.  I have what I think is my all time favorite photo, and it is of my 2 kiddos on the beach.  It is an old photo… so old I was still shooting film…  This one was taken on black and white film so I scanned it in to put it here.  I got several great shots in a series that day on Lake Michigan (funny to me that my favorite beach photo is from Lake Michigan, even though we now live in California and have visited many beaches…), and they just make me all giddy inside everytime I look at them ;-) … except that our youngest little guy wasn’t here yet!!  I really want to re-create this with all 3 of our sweeties someday…

Who doesn’t have fun on the beach??  All the other entries are sure to bring warm memories of beach trips… please go see at least a few at I Heart Faces!

I got to spend some time with some great friends in the Tower District yesterday afternoon!  It was HOT… but it was fun ;-) !  Somehow whenever we have shoots in the scorching heat, my lovely clients continue to look fabulous through the whole thing, whereas I looked like I just stepped out of a sauna… crazy.  Here is one of my favorites just for a little sneak peek… but I have many more favorites, so don’t forget to come back, ya’ll. ;-)

I’m also playing with a new watermark… any thoughts?

He is a special education teacher and football coach.  She is a high school english teacher and knitting queen.  He thought she had a boyfriend.  But one Saturday night, they ran into each other on Facebook playing poker.  He realized Saturday night poker playing on the internet must mean no boyfriend after all… and so it began.  Then, true to their fun, spontaneous personalities, the two of them planned a surprise wedding — she showed up at her parents’ home full of family on Christmas Eve in a gorgeous wedding gown, ready for her brother to officially announce them as husband and wife!  Now he makes her laugh, and she makes him get that look in his eyes… Kim and Dana, even after 6 months of marriage, your newlywed glow is far from disappearing.

These two kept me laughing… even in the 106 degree heat…

Vavava-voom!

Kim, you are gorgeous.

Dana & Kim got engaged at Ficklin Vineyards, so they thought it would be perfect to do their shoot there.  And they were right.

Thank you, Kim & Dana — you two are the best!  I still smile every time I think of our afternoon together… it was so wonderful to meet you!!

My husband and I both grew up camping, but my husband is a camping pro.  Seriously.  He went to school to learn how to run a camp, because that is one of his great passions.  He really wanted to end up in Jackson Hole, Wyoming (his favorite — truly beautiful place) running a Christian camp with his close high school buddy, but plans changed, life happened, and he took a different career path.  But his love for camping and his talent for cooking awesome camp meals and planning itineraries for great stuff to do is still a huge part of him.  When we camp, I do not do a thing.  He cooks, cleans, puts up, tears down… everything.  I completely relax, and I love it!  And I love him for making it such a wonderful time for our family (among other reasons… ;-) ).  Now that we live in central California, there are a MILLION terrific places to camp!!  This past weekend we got to go to Dinkey Creek for the first time, and between the fishing for trout, bumping down the natural waterslides in the COLD creek, watching our kids explore, and enjoying s’mores with friends, we could not have had more fun!  If we only had more time to take in every great site… my husband could come up with a plan to visit each state park campground…

The word summer carries so many memories for people… swimming pools, vacations, days of doing whatever we want… Summer for me as a kid was spending hours in my room reading the pile of books I got to check out at the library, which is not the norm for most people, but my daughter seems to have taken on that trait as well… ;-)   And summer also means family vacation to me — my sisters and I were blessed with the fact that almost every summer we got to take a week or so and travel to whatever destination my parents dreamed up, and we still laugh about the stories and photos from those days in our orange VW van (with the huge rocks piled at our feet on the way home… that is a long story for later) and our pop-up camper, seeing so many things all over the US.  Whatever summer memories you cherish, I hope you are making many new ones this summer and savoring each moment… because summer is only a few short weeks and is disappearing fast…

Just wanted to share some happy Saturday sunshine.  Isn’t she precious?

I keep telling my friend, the mom of this stinkin’ handsome little guy, that her son is just so smart.  That is why he says the things he says and makes up the songs he makes up.  His imagination is incredible… really… you should hear his lyrics.  And I think this photo helps prove my point — can you not see in that expression that he is wise beyond his years??

I have more of his family (he has a brother just as adorable as he is) to share soon, but I had to post this little goody.  I wish I could hear what was going on in his head during this moment… probably something like, “Why in the world is that lady constantly sticking that big black thing as big as her head in my face?  Will someone give me the keys?  I’m outta here.”

I met the lovely Miss A several months ago when her brand new baby brother joined her family.  I was taken by her sweet, sweet family — they were so laid back, even while we were trying to get in shots of their new baby and their 2 other children, all under the age of 5 ;-) !  Miss A reflects her whole family with her smarts and her cuteness!!  This time when I got to be with her family, it was all about her birthday celebration!  I believe her mom missed her calling as a party coordinator, because this was the mac-daddy of all 5 year old birthday parties!!  A snow cone machine, popcorn popper, hot dog roaster, ginormous blow-up waterslide,  candy shoppe, and tons of friends to enjoy them with… what a lucky girl!!!  Did I mention the candy shoppe??  Tons of pixie sticks, gumballs, salt water taffy, gummy worms, Pop Rocks… seriously, it looked like parties I had dreams about when I was a kid ;-) .  Or maybe that was yesterday.

Thank you so much, Miss A and family, for letting me be a part of your FUN celebration!!  Miss A, you are so blessed to have a wonderful family who loves you so much and knows how to throw one marvelous party!

i heart faces is looking at all kinds of feet this week, and raising awareness for Soles 4 Souls*!   What an easy way to help out people all over the world!!  There are many too small or no longer worn shoes lurking in our closets… how cool to be able to send them to someone who really needs them!!

Cute feet photos are just too fun!!  My feet are not very pretty right now, so I will not be showing them.  However, I just took this photo of my dear friends a few weeks ago.  They are getting ready to move their family in just a few short weeks to a foreign country to spread the Good News.  I am so excited for them and so proud of them and so in awe of them, but so incredibly sad at how much we will all miss them at the same time!!!!  We thought their beautiful feet standing around the globe spoke volumes about them and their hearts.

Isaiah 52:7   How beautiful on the mountain are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!”

I have some more to share of the fun children’s mini session I had with my friends a couple of weeks ago!  And let me tell you, this young lady is more than just a beauty, she is SO musically talented, and she draws the most amazing creations, and she is hilarious!!  Mmmmhmmmm… you watch for her.  And you heard it here, ladies and gentlemen!  I’m so blessed to know her and her family!
