happiness! {i heart faces}
April 3, 2012
Creating images that cause the viewer to smile and feel that extra special something of emotion is just one of my favorite things. Its like capturing that feeling and being able to go back to it whenever you want. This image makes me grin inside and outside. Mostly because its my own kids, I’m sure
, and I know how much my daughter loves cupcakes, and how my son’s giggle sounds after having a little frosting war with his sister. But hopefully even a non-related viewer feels some sort of happiness when they see it, too.
If you haven’t joined in on the fun over at I Heart Faces, you really should! There is much happiness there today
… I’m sure you’ll want to share in it.

a few minutes at navy pier {chicago lifestyle photographer}
March 27, 2012
My husband and I had some time to spare at Navy Pier a few days ago, so we walked around a bit. I have driven by before, but have not ever been inside! We toured the Children’s Museum (and plan to go back soon WITH the kids!!
) and checked out the different stores and vendors. It was a bit chilly and foggy the day we were there and I am excited to go back in the summer when we can be near the water and enjoy all the outside fun, too!

i heart faces ~ beautiful black and white
March 6, 2012
I love how black and white processing can make just the right image even more powerful ~ like it makes the story of the photo jump out of the image even more. It isn’t for every image, but many times when I am editing, I just know… this one needs to be black and white.
I had trouble choosing between two different images that I wanted to enter into I Heart Faces this week. They were both of my boys just playing in the backyard, so I had my family vote for which one they liked best. This was the winner, especially because it was my husband’s vote
. I think this guy has just about the biggest smile ever. And he definitely has handsome covered. All the boys in our house absolutely love to laugh and find one of life’s best challenges is to make others laugh, too.
So excited to see all the other incredible black and white images over at I Heart Faces!

Love this! I think the best part of being a photographer is getting to photograph our own kids. And he does have a great smile!

donut date {lifestyle downers grove photographer}
January 19, 2012
Since it is freezing and snowy here at our new home, people aren’t too excited about doing outdoor photo sessions right now. Unlike our old home in warm California where I could shoot year round. And there were mountains. And non-stop sun. Yes, I am missing that right now… though I do love it here
. I am just a little cold… SO, I finally have some time to go through some of our own family photos that have been sitting on my computer untouched for months… and I came across these from a little donut date after a soccer game for our little guy. He earned this trip as a bribe from his dad. It is so funny how we teach our kids to not kick or hit anyone or anything and be nice and polite and sweet, and then when they get on the soccer field, we yell, “KICK THE BALL!! GET IN THERE! BE AGGRESSIVE!!” No wonder little J just kept giving us a confused look as he skipped across the gym floor following his teammates… I love him and his precious heart
. Since he was having a hard time getting his head in the game, his dad told him if he kicked the ball 5 times, he could go get donuts after the game. That’s all it took. After each kick, he looked at us and hollered out the number of kicks he had accomplished so far. It didn’t matter that he kicked the ball towards the opponent’s goal, or that he kicked it straight into the wall. He focused on that ball and he kicked it. And we were so proud.
