I adore Lake Michigan. The tall grass in the sand, the soft breezes, the waves small enough for the kids to play in, but not big enough to knock them over. Add an amazing lake house to that lake, and I have to pinch myself to see if I’m dreaming! This sweet weekend at a friend’s parents’ gorgeous cottage was refreshing, relaxing, and the perfect last trip of the summer.
After living far away for my hometown for quite awhile, it is extremely fun for me to be able to reconnect with people from my childhood that I haven’t seen in years. I got to meet up with a family who is very dear to my heart as they were our neighbors as I was growing up. The parents still live in the house up the street from my old house, and we did their large family session there. I wasn’t sure what it was going to be like being back in the old neighborhood and seeing the house that I lived in from the time I was 6 until I moved out when I got married that belongs to someone else now, but seeing all of their smiling faces and meeting everyone’s kiddos was so fantastic and all the fun memories came flooding in. Thank you so much, M Family!! I was so honored to capture some new memories for you.
These kids are just so CUTE! I had so much fun watching them play and love on each other and tell goofy jokes and giggle. Such a fun morning hanging out with them and their beautiful mom, who just also happens to be my friend ;), followed by a fun lunch while the moms chatted and all of our kids played. Love those kind of days.
As a kid, one of my favorite things to do was go to the fair with my family. It reminded me that school was coming because it was usually at the end of the summer (and I was a rare strange child who loved going back to school!), and sometimes it was cool enough that my mom would let me wear my new school jeans as we walked around and rode the rides. Funny how different sites and smells take you right back to your childhood ;). My kids and I went to a little carnival near our house recently, and I had to get cotton candy, just because that was always my favorite treat that we could only get at the fair when I was a kid.
