I have some more to share of the fun children’s mini session I had with my friends a couple of weeks ago!  And let me tell you, this young lady is more than just a beauty, she is SO musically talented, and she draws the most amazing creations, and she is hilarious!!  Mmmmhmmmm… you watch for her.  And you heard it here, ladies and gentlemen!  I’m so blessed to know her and her family!

Yellow was my absolute favorite color when I was a kid.  When I was 6, we moved to a new house, and my parents let me pick the wallpaper and carpet for my room.  Wow, were they brave… I was in love with yellow, and being the late 70’s, I found a fabulous patchwork wallpaper with oranges, greens, and yellows, and I HAD to have yellow carpet.  I remember my mom trying to talk me out of it, but I wouldn’t budge.  So, my floors became a pale banana yellow, and I was in heaven.  Until my sister spilled red makeup on the floor that would not come out…  Now yellow is my daughter’s favorite color.  But we are not wallpapering or getting new carpet.

At I Heart Faces this week, the theme is yellow!  I’ve never done a color themed photo, and it was SO fun thinking of all the possibilities!!  I wish I had more time to devote to a gloriously yellow themed photo, but this is what we came up with in our short amount of time.

Add some more sunshiney yellow to your day by visiting I Heart Faces!!

When Amanda stepped out of the truck with amazing heels and a purple top that matched the flowers in the spot I thought would look perfect for a photo series, I knew we were going to have fun.  The location she and her mom picked was gorgeous… and though the clouds didn’t seem to be cooperating with the evening sun we were hoping for, we grabbed the glimpses of sunshine we got, and her stunning eyes popped amazingly in the shade.  Her aspirations in politics and desire to pursue her dreams did not surprise me the more conversation we had… her intelligence and love for life was obvious.

Amanda, it was so wonderful to meet you and your mom!  I hope you enjoy these last few days of your senior year… and treasure each second.  I will be looking for your name as a rising star in D.C. in the near future!

My husband, Ben, and I love the country.  Before we moved to sunny Cali, we lived in an old 1930’s farmhouse in Illinois.  It was on just about 3 acres, which was perfect — not too much to keep up with, but plenty of room for the youngin’s to play and the dogs to run.  We even had a couple of sheep, just to “baaa” at, and for the kids to feed.  It was so incredibly peaceful, and being mostly introverted, I enjoyed just being there, at home.  The house was falling apart in areas, but it was just so… homey.  And full of character.  Swimming pool blue walls in the kitchen, pumpkin in the living room… not bright colors, but the kind that you just want to breathe in.  Very comforting.

Travelling out to my friends’ parents home on Sunday reminded me how much I miss being out in the open, seeing unbroken green for miles.  Their ranch was just gorgeous with incredible views… as my friend drove me around on his father’s “Gator,” I could picture so many photo ideas that my head was spinning!!  After they had enough of me snapping away, we finally got to enjoy the smell we had been inhaling all day as Grandpa had been barbequing!   And it was GOOD.

The grandkids get to spend many weekends at the ranch, playing with the horses and exploring, and spending time with their sweet and wonderfully kind grandparents.  You all are tremendously blessed to have such a beautiful family — inside and out!!  Thank you for the delicious meal, and for allowing me to be part of your evening and capture this time in your lives!

Love this one of the kids just playing around up on the hill.  I will have more for you to see soon!

I love this age.  Discovering so many new things, testing everything to see how it works (including Mom & Dad ;-) ), developing their sweet little language that even if you can’t understand it all sounds completely cute…  This little sweetheart radiates joy, and I love this photo of her blowing on the wildflower.  She was probably waiting for it to lose its petals and watch them go flying in the breeze, as I’m sure she’s done many times with those fluffy dandelions, but even though these tiny wildflower petals weren’t going anywhere, she looked so precious trying!!

So many talented photographers with beautiful flower and face photos at I Heart Faces!

So, I drafted this post last weekend for Mother’s Day, but I couldn’t get our scanner to work so that I could post this sweet photo of my mom… got it now, so I am posting it a week late anyway… ;-)

There is just something about the comfort of Mom.  I remember, long after I had moved out of my parent’s home, that everytime I walked through that front door, a feeling of warmth and stability just rushed over me.  True, some of it was coming from the house that I grew up in, and of course also from seeing my dad, but that hug from Mom could just melt away every fear, worry, and sadness I was feeling, no matter how old I was.  Sitting at my mom’s funeral dinner just a little over a year ago, it suddenly dawned on me that I would never experience that again.  It hit me like ice water dumped from a huge cooler on my head… shocking my system even further.  I treasure those memories of just seeing her smile as I walked through the door, and pray that as my children grow and face all kind of different hurts or trials that my hugs will do the same for them… wash it all away.

This is a photo of my mom and I celebrating my 2nd birthday.  Don’t you just wish you could jump into a photo sometimes??

Today I got to do a mini photoshoot with one of my daughter’s besties. And I happen to think her mom is pretty great, too ;-) ! I love my job, but how much more fun is it when I get to hang out with friends, make them do silly things, and go crazy with my passion all at the same time?? SUPER fun!! I had to apologize, because I made them walk all around Old Town, and it was getting quite warm… But I forget what time it is when I am having so much fun. Can’t help it. ;-) I hope they find it was worth it when they see how gorgeous (of course) Miss J looks in all her photos! I picked out just one of my favorites to put up today, but more to come soon…

I have been dying to take photos in front of these orange trees.  When I have driven by other orange groves lately, and I have seen that they have been harvested of their bright, juicy fruit, I have thought, “OH!  I’m sure I missed out on that fabulous photo opp I have had in my head for months!!”  But these trees have kept their fruit for a long time… and there is still LOTS of bright, beautiful orange yumminess on these trees!!  Thank goodness for me and my photo I have had in the great photo ideas box in my brain (which is constantly in work mode, I might add)!  Although the photo in my head includes my WHOLE family, these will do for now (though these 3 people are really, really gorgeous all by themselves ;-) )… I had to atleast get some before even these oranges were gone… Hopefully the full idea will come to fruition soon!!

My husband is deeply passionate about the Cub Scouts.  He could not wait until our 2nd child (first son) was in first grade so that he could start him up in Cub Scouts and be there right by his side.  I thought that sounded great — Cub Scouts seemed like a really neat way for the two of them to spend time together, learn some great stuff, and go on fun field trips!  I wasn’t in Girl Scouts, so I really had no idea what they were going to be doing, or what the Scouts were really all about.  Let me tell you, our son LOVES it!!  But, his dad may love it even more!!  He dove head first into helping with everything he could, and he has even earned a big leadership award (SO proud of him)!  He is the leader of a Den… or Pack… or both… I still don’t know all of their lingo.  I had no idea how intense the Pinewood Derby race could be.  I had no idea you could earn so many beads and patches.  But those boys are learning tremendously great life lessons and morals and values and I love it!  We planted a tree on their school grounds to celebrate the Boy Scouts 100th Birthday a few weeks ago.  Soon it will have a plaque and hopefully the tree will be growing for generations to see.  And my sweet guy and his awesome dad helped plant it.
